48 Hours in Paris: How We Do the City of Light
When you think of Paris, you might envision candlelit dinners, romantic strolls, and chic boutiques - and you'd be right. But Paris is also perfect for family adventures, blending sophistication and charm effortlessly. On our recent visit, my husband, Howard, our teenage son, Teddie, and I rediscovered Paris' sparkle, making new memories and uncovering hidden gems along the way.
Where We Stayed: Family-Friendly Luxe at Hilton Opera
Our suite at the Hilton Opera was perfectly situated, combining classic Parisian elegance with modern comforts. Its ideal location allowed us easy access to iconic sights, fabulous shopping, and wonderful eateries, making it the perfect family-friendly base.
Tip: Request an upper-floor room for beautiful city views and quieter nights.
What We Did: Montmartre for Art, Atmosphere & Views
Montmartre quickly captured our hearts. Wandering its cobbled streets, visiting unique galleries, and tasting fresh pastries from charming boulangeries felt like stepping into a movie. We also shared a quiet heart-felt moment at Sacré-Cœur, placing a heart-shaped padlock on the railings in memory of our gorgeous daughter, Evie Dove, which she would have loved. We then headed to Terrass Hotel’s rooftop bar to soak up more of the incredible views, and raise a glass (or two!) to the City of Lights.
Tip: Head to the steps of Sacré-Cœur at sunset for breathtaking panoramic views over Paris.
Where We Ate: Big Plates & Even Bigger Vibes
A stone’s throw from Sacré-Cœur in the 18th arrondissement sits Bouillon Pigalle, combining authentic Parisian bistro cuisine with a very lively authentic atmosphere. Teddie loved the retro Bouillon arcade game given to guests waiting for their table!
What We Did: Eiffel Tour & Rue Saint-Honoré
A visit to the Eiffel Tower is always special - its views never disappoint! Then we spent a leisurely hours exploring the sophisticated boutiques and stylish brands along Rue Saint-Honoré. For lunch, we recommend Café Kitsuné for a trendy vibe or Angelina for classic French charm and their legendary hot chocolate (which of course Teddie had to try!).
Where We Ate: Small Plates & Big Vibes
A world away from the bustling joviality of yesterday’s dinner, we discovered in the heart of the lush garden of the Musée du Quai Branly, an roof-top oasis. Les Ombres offers a unique panoramic view of Paris - almost in touching distance of the Eiffel Tower and the most incredible food! We ate, drank, and laughed while Le Tour Eiffel sparkled next to us.
Tip: Make restaurant reservations in advance, especially for popular spots with views.
Would We Go Back Tomorrow? Absolutely.
Paris reminded us that family travel can blend elegance, adventure, and meaningful experiences seamlessly. The city's effortless charm provided the perfect backdrop for creating cherished family memories, reminding us why we love travelling together. ✨
